Affinity Groups
05/24/2009
Here at St Luke's we are beginning to discover the many affinities within the congregation. Each and every one of us brings gifts, needs, and passions to our life together.
Discovering where these overlap and enhance one another will enrich our community and direct our mission.
Few people do things (for very long) that they have no interest in. Congregations tend to forget this, wearing out folks with tasks just because "we've always done that".
Over the coming months we will be hearing briefly from a number of parishioners who are forming "affinity groups" here in the congregation. Then on Pentecost, May 31, a great day around here anyway - we'll all have the chance to connect with others who share our "affinities". What's your passion?
AN EXAMPLE OF OF AN AFINITY GROUP. One of our newer members, Jeff Boles, hopes to organize monthly community service projects. First on the horizon is a Saturday morning at St Mark's Soup Kitchen. Although these projects will be under the auspices of our 20s & 30s group, where the idea first surfaced, any and all interested parishioners are heartily invited to participate. Although many if not most of our members do community service either pro bono or professionally, we've been less effective in getting parish sponsored programs off the ground. Thanks, Jeff, for helping make this happen!
