Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive
01/31/2010
This Saturday January 30, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Sunday, January 31, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.
As many of you know, our friend Arnold Markley has leukemia and is going through the transplant process. He is fortunate to have potential matches, however, there are many people who have difficulty finding a match.
We want to raise awareness of the need for donors from all different backgrounds. Donors are particularly needed among those of African-American, Latino and Jewish ancestry.
Your marrow could be the difference between life and death.
It's easy to join the Gift of Life Registry!
Eligible donors must be between the ages of 18-60 and in general good health.
Gift of Life is open to more people because they screen more individuals and does not ban broad groups, such as gay men.
Registration involves a simple swab of cells from the inside of the cheeks (No blood required at this stage). There is no charge to be tested.
If you aren't eligible to donate, you can still help!
It costs about $60 for the lab tests for each potential donor. A financial donation is just as valuable and will help to cover processing costs.
If you wish to be a financial donor, checks should be made out to Gift of Life but sent to St. Luke and The Epiphany so we can send them together with the donor registrations.
